It was a Barbenheimer day at the US box office with the simultaneous release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
While Oppenheimer receives critical acclaim, Barbie, as expected, has crushed it at the US box office, projected to earn $110 million during its opening weekend compared to Oppenheimer’s $50 million.
Warner Bros. revealed Barbie’s impressive $23.1 million box office previews, making it the second highest for any film this year after Mario Bros. Oppenheimer collected $12.05 million in previews, which is around half of Barbie.
In India, both Barbie and Oppenheimer recorded exceptional responses in National Chains for opening day. Two films headed for combined day one in the vicinity of 20 crores with good walk-in momentum. Oppenheimer leads in India by a big margin over Barbie due to the immense brand value of Nolan among the elite Indian audience.
8 PM EST, Friday Numbers:

Oppenheimer – $17,188,251
