Stunt scenes are a crucial part of new age movies, with movies like The Fall Guy, John Wick, Monkey Man stunts are now taking the front seat, and to celebrate this part of cinema it is very important to include the Best Stunt Category.
The most recent addition in the Academy Awards was Best Animated Feature Film in 2001.
But now the Academy Awards are thinking about including the stunt section in the awards.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer mentioned they are exploring the possibility of a stunt category. “We’re talking to members of the stunt community who are Academy members about the possibility of that,” he also added, “We added a new award that will launch in two years for Casting Directors, so we’re always open to those discussions.”
Furthermore, recent inclusion of a Best Casting category, which will debut in 2026, has further fueled calls for recognizing stunt work. The Fall Guy, a film celebrating the stunt community, also came at a perfect time.
Now with each passing year Hollywood is adding more action films, apart from the action franchises, more individual stand alone movies are coming out.
And, being an exceptionally important part of the film makings, Academy Awards are right now focusing on giving them credit as well.
