The trailer for Transformers ONE has been released, and it has caused a massive divide among the fans. The movie appears to be targeted at younger demographics, with light-hearted animation and showcasing much younger versions of the beloved characters. But is that all, or is there more to this movie than meets the eye? It was announced three years ago that the movie would be completely animated. Fans are still digesting the new medium, as the “Bayverse” and the “Knight-verse” movies made everyone accustomed to live action. At the same time, fans are happily welcoming the franchise in its most pristine state.
Having no central human figure to serve as the “everyman,” TF-ONE can focus more on the bigger plot points like war, classicism, and discrimination, for which the recent comic runs are renowned. The focus also shifts towards Orion and D-16’s paths as they ‘transform’ Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively.
The movie is also dividing the fandom over the voice of Prime. While some consider Hemsworth good for a young prime, there are many who cannot digest the shift from the battle-hardened Optimus voiced by Peter Cullen to this much goofier version. The film also features fan favorites like Bumblebee, Elita-1, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave, and Alpha Trion.
Cybertron looks much more alive. Facilitating stunning visuals. Comparable to Guardians of the Galaxy. Making us wonder: do we have ourselves a worthy contender for the Oscars in the category? Only time will tell as the movie hits theaters on September 20th.
