Gran Turismo Races Ahead Of Barbie At BO

Gran Turismo Races Ahead Of Barbie At BOIn the box office race, Barbie was overtaken by a movie based on racing, Gran Turismo. The Sony movie managed to outperform Barbie over the weekend.

According to reports, Gran Turismo and Barbie were in a tight competition, both projected to earn around $17 million. However, as the week concluded, reports revealed that Gran Turismo had earned $17.4 million, while Barbie collected approximately $15.5 million.

In addition to the $17.4 million earned over the weekend, the movie also generated $1.4 million from pre-shows and $3.9 million from other screenings.

Originally, the movie was scheduled for an early release on August 11th. However, due to a strike involving writers and actors, promotional efforts became challenging. As a result, the studios opted for limited preview screenings and fan events leading up to the official release on August 25th.

Also worth noting in the box office numbers is the impact of Sunday’s $4 ticket distribution at all showings, which clearly influenced the market. While Barbie may have technically sold more tickets in America, the North American market was still dominated by the Sony movie.

With a strong performance on Friday, the movie easily surpassed Barbie. Although Barbie performed better on Saturday and Sunday, it couldn’t catch up to the significant lead taken by the racing film.

Even as Gran Turismo celebrates its success, Barbie continues to storm ahead without showing any signs of slowing down.
