Now, it has been 20 weeks of the strike, and some notable names have joined the line, such as Meryl Streep, Bryan Cranston, Rami Malek, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jimmy Fallon, and Bob Odenkirk. Now, on the 135th day of the ongoing strike, Margot Robbie joins the march, and there lies the question: why now?
She was obviously and extensively engaged in promoting Barbie, but she is just too late to the party. As the Greta Gerwig movie fades away from the box office, her arrival in the protest looks a bit off. It is also creating a bad image for the actress, but no trolls have been made. But again, her presence brings big star power, and as Barbie smashed box office records at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, her arrival makes a strong statement.
Barbie’s contemporary, Oppenheimer, openly supported the strike from the very first day, even canceling numerous previous commitments and walking out from some. This is indeed a big hit to the industry, but for the sake of protecting rights, this is really important and should be done.
