Just a few more days left for the biggest rumble of the century, a fight between two very different movies, a fight between Oppenheimer and Barbie. One promises a comic experience and complete entertainment and the other one demands your patience. Though Barbenheimer is going strong, people are choosing sides, stars are choosing sides.
Now, when it comes to advertisements, Barbie not only puts up a strong performance, it seemed that they are the only player in the game. From colorful billboards to dashing costumes, it was like walking in the park.
As Barbie was gaining mass attention, it was the stars who capitalized on it as much as possible. From Barbie captions to the bright pink photoshoots, the celebs milked Barbie more than anything.
From Mrunal Thakur to Bhumi Pednekar, all included themselves in the Barbie world. Bollywood is living the Barbie Life through and through. But where does Oppenheimer stand in the picture?
The Stars aren’t aligning themselves with the mad scientist as there is less buzz. But as per the fans, they are in love with the Nolan film, they are all for Oppenheimer.
If we put the fact under the microscope, we can see that Barbie was never a part of Indian culture. Though Barbie influenced Indian memes for some time now, the love stayed limited to that. It stood as a symbol of aristocracy and elitism, a life lived by a short percentage of Indians. On the other hand, the Indian market showed immense love for any Nolan movie.
In short, though Barbie has captured Global attention like nothing else, India might prefer watching Oppenheimer. In recent times, Bollywood made some fair movies, during that, they lost their connection with the audience. This promotional stunt by Bollywood is just solidifying the previous argument as they are completely ignoring the mass hype of Oppenheimer and a few ‘Barbie!’ screams aren’t gonna change anything.
