The box office is slowing down after the enormous phenomenon known as “Barbenheimer.” Although “Meg 2” had a good run, it’s the stale action thriller featuring Sylvester Stallone that’s causing concern.
“The Expend4bles” was more than disappointing, collecting only $750k in previews, raising doubts. In its first week on the big screens, the movie only collected $8.3 million, failing to top the weekly box office. “The Nun 2,” which has been in theaters for three weeks, reclaimed the top spot.
This week’s box office had the worst numbers of the entire year, with no movie crossing the $10 million mark. The lackluster performance of the debutant “Expend4bles” played a significant role in this.
The latest “Expendables” movie didn’t meet expectations over the weekend. It was predicted to make $15 million but fell short due to bad reviews and a lack of buzz, in contrast to its predecessors, which earned much more: $15.8 million for “Expendables 3” in 2014, $28.5 million for the 2012 sequel, and $34.8 million for the 2010 original.
The future doesn’t look bright for the franchise, as social media reviews mirror these abysmal numbers. However, there’s joy in Hollywood this week as the strike on paper has ended, allowing makers to resume production.
