David Leitch’s romantic action comedy The Fall Guy made $25.4 million over its opening weekend in 78 foreign territories, grossing a total of $36.9 million at the international box office.
Starring Emily Blunt, the movie had the greatest opening of $4.4 million on 1,400 screens in the UK and Ireland. The movie’s $65.4 million worldwide total is marginally less than the domestic box office expectations.
In the weeks preceding its premiere, the movie did not live up to the hype, even with its success. $10.49 million was made on Friday, $10.25 million on Saturday, and $7.76 million on Sunday during the movie’s first weekend of release.
With David Leitch in the lead role, the beloved 1980s TV series The Fall Guy had an 83% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and the potential to become a smash.
Although there is no sign of a comeback, The Fall Guy IP has been off the air for forty years, despite some analysts comparing it to Mission: Impossible. The film’s scheduling which landed on a weekend that has historically generated revenue for theatre owners was the primary factor influencing exhibitors.
