Detective Comics indeed need a detective to investigate the reasons behind their downfall. With each passing moment, DC is losing its charm. Although a group of people is excited about the reign of Gunn and Sarfan, it’s just a fraction of its past devotees.
Amidst this time of turmoil, DC is on its way to release a couple more movies, and Blue Beetle is supposed to take the first big hit. As a fan of the franchise, it might break your heart, but sugarcoating the truth won’t change anything, as Blue Beetle isn’t even projected to earn half of its cost.
The main reason behind this calamity is their lack of advertisement. Though in the later phases, they gained some social media attention, it will barely be effective. So what did DC do to advertise it?
They made Blue Beetle comics available to be read for free online.
Sarcastically, we can appreciate the brilliance behind this decision, but whom are we kidding? Blue Beetle has always been a superhero for hardcore comic fans, and they have already turned the pages of the comics.
When it comes to casual fans, the question arises: how many of them will actually visit the comics? A very negligible number, to be precise.
Now, it’s not a very practical decision to release a film like Blue Beetle, let alone have faith in the fans and not focus on advertisement. It’s even a big-budget film (more expensive than Oppenheimer!) and a small return will only amplify DC’s problems.
