Coming to 2014 list of good films that left the audiences mesmerised both for the content and performances of actors, Aamir Khan’s ‘pk’ definitely stands one among them. But surprisingly Aamir Khan couldn’t make it to the winners list. Then who came in between Aamir Khan and the National Award? It was a transgender.
Yes, Kannada actor Sanchari Vijay played a transgender role in ‘Nanu Avanallu Avalu’ which won him the National Award for Best Actor Male. It is learnt that Malayalam superstar Mammootty was in the race for his brilliant performance in Malayalam movie ‘Munnaripyuppu’, Aamir Khan for ‘pk’ and Shahid Kapoor for his dare-devil portrayal of ‘Haider’.
Expectations were high on Mammooty as he was a three-time National Award winner. And Aamir Khan had been the next favourite in the race. Of course, Shahid Kapoor’s unconventional role in ‘Haider’ would have nailed it. But it was Vijay’s outstanding transgender’s role that beat all the superstars who were in the race. Congrats Vijay for that gutsy role!
