Kalki is nearing the completion of its run in the Hindi market as the film has slowly touch the Rs 260 crore mark. In other scenarios, the film could have touched the Rs 275 crore mark to beat RRR but that wasn’t to be.
It is established that RRR largely benefited from the mass circuits up north which helped its cause at the box office and made it easier to touch the Rs 275 crore mark. Despite having an extended run for four weeks, Kalki is unable to access this mark.
A-rated film Bad Newz which has Tripti Dimri and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles is also said to have eaten into the prospects of Kalki this weekend.
Bad Newz had a Rs 30 crore nett weekend and this is a decent number considering the current slump of Bollywood.
Though Bad Newz was not expected to tamper with the run of Kalki in Hindi, the effect was evident over the weekend as the Hindi audience appeared to have lapped up the former. This slightly ate into Kalki’s prospects it seems.
Being an adult comedy, Bad News has a separate audience but the presence of Vicky might have pulled the audience.
As a result, Kalki will end up agonizingly close to the RRR tally of Rs 275 crore as Kalki is likely to end in the range of Rs 270 crore at the Hindi box office.
