Alpha Teaser Talk: Two Big Doubts Haunt Spy Universe Fans

Alia Bhatt in Alpha teaser

The Alpha teaser is finally out, giving audiences their first proper glimpse into YRF’s ambitious female-led spy thriller. After building an entire universe around Tiger, Kabir, and Pathaan, Yash Raj Films is now betting big on Alia Bhatt and Sharvari to take the franchise in a new direction.

The teaser introduces Alia’s character, Sita, who appears to be part of a secret program designed to create elite covert operatives. The footage is packed with training montages, action blocks, hand-to-hand combat, explosions, and spy-thriller imagery. Visually, the film looks polished and mounted on a large scale, exactly what one expects from a YRF Spy Universe project.

However, the teaser has also left audiences with some important questions.

The biggest challenge for Alpha is whether Alia Bhatt can convincingly sell herself as a full-fledged action star. She has already proven herself across multiple genres. But carrying an action franchise is a different challenge altogether. The action in the teaser looks slick, but many viewers feel the real test will come when audiences watch her sustain that intensity for an entire film.

Another major talking point is Sharvari’s complete absence. Despite being promoted as one of the film’s leads, she is nowhere to be seen in the teaser. Naturally, fans are wondering whether the makers are intentionally hiding her character or saving her reveal for the trailer.

The teaser, however, lacks a standout moment. Unlike the first looks of Pathaan, War, or Tiger, there is not a single sequence, dialogue, action shot, or background score cue that instantly becomes iconic.

There are also some doubts regarding the writing. Social media discussions have focused on the revelation that Uday Chopra has story credits. Given the backlash directed at films like Tiger 3 and War 2, which were written by Aditya Chopra, some fans are apprehensive about whether Uday Chopra, making his debut as a writer, can deliver an exciting story rather than something formulaic. However, this time there appears to be no India-Pakistan joint mission angle, which has come as a relief to some viewers.

Ultimately, the teaser creates curiosity, but it does not yet generate the kind of unanimous excitement that usually accompanies a big spy-universe event film. Whether Alpha becomes a gamechanger for the YRF Spy Universe or another routine franchise entry will depend on what the makers reveal next.
