Back in the 90s, Chandrababu Naidu was one of the most ruthless politicians in India when it comes to public administration and governance. The way in which he was keeping government officials and bureaucrats at the edge of their feet was phenomenal.
Now we are getting glimpses of this trademark Chandrababu again, as he has started review meetings with IAS officers and is reprimanding them whenever needed.
Since yesterday, Chandrababu had been discussing a wide range of topics from water irrigation projects to power supply to IT infrastructure development in his meeting with IAS officers.
The point to be noted here that Chandrababu Naidu had been very sincere and straightforward in this review meeting set up.
As opposed to the conventional formula where IAS officers are given a lot of time to explain their concerned department, which would eat up entire day for very little discussion and debate, Babu has changed the track now.
The CM is giving not more than five minutes for an IAS officer to explain the dynamics of the department they are handling and they work that is to be done. When an officer is crossing this timeline, Babu is immediately reprimanding them. He is maintaining crispness in timing and also the point of discussion.
Babu is giving a very strong impression that he is not going to tolerate time wasting at these review meetings, which are crucial for governance. He has been on point with his approach from the first day as he himself is coming prepared for the same.
This is the vintage administrator, Chandrababu that had been missed and it is good that he is reinventing himself. At the end of the day, it is the bureaucrats and officials who are the eyes and ears of the government and they’ll have to function supremely well for a successful and effective government.
