Prashanth Neel

Prashanth Neel is commercially the most efficient and viable director in all of Indian cinema. He executes projects in rather tight budgets and his films tend to return great revenues.

This time around, the trailer for Neel’s new film, Bagheera has been unveiled and it is a story in itself. Prashanth Neel hasn’t directed the film but he has provided the story for this actioner which features Kannada’s Sri Murali who happened to be Neel’s first hero (Ugramm).

Coming to the trailer, it is on the lines of what one would expect from Neel. There are the slow motion shots, KGF-style BGM, hero elevation dialogues, and most characteristically important of the lot – “Boggu masi” (coal dust). The dark tint is carried all through the course of the trailer.

While there have been complaints about Neel perhaps overdoing the dark tone and coalmine-type setup, he is least bothered about this talk, evidently.

If the trailer is anything to go by, then this could be Neel’s fourth straight film in this coalmine-kind of a setup after KGF duology and Salaar. He is risking monotony with this new film as he is pushing the line by using the same template.

Neel is currently working with NTR and if this too fall in the same tone, then the discussions could expedite. That being said, there is a famous saying that goes like “No need to change something that is working”. This is exactly what appears to be Neel’s principle now. He is likely to stick to this boggu until it gets rejected by the audience.

As for Bagheera, this film is up for release on the 31st of this month. It is again funded by Neel’s trusted Hombale Films.
