There are literally only a few hours to go for the theatrical debut of Prabhas and Prashanth Neel’s Salaar. Amidst this tense situation for the team and its main man, Prabhas, there is a major relief and this is coming from up North.
SRK’s Dunki which released today posed a major threat to Salaar. Though the openings were mediocre, the film had the potential to go on a long run, thanks to SRK’s form and Rajkumar Hirani’s brand value.
However, things don’t look promising for Dunki now. The reviews are not very encouraging. At the same time, word of mouth is not an outright disaster either. It is just that the film is not of SRK-Hirani caliber. Had the film gained a positive response up north, it could’ve gone on a long run up North and also overseas.
Even now, Dunki might go on a decent run, but the chances are that it might not be on a strong enough note to eat into Salaar’s prospects.
With this, Salaar now stands with the advantage point. Being a mass film with Baahubali hero and KGF director factor that can massively help up North, the film can start a box office explosion with positive word of mouth.
The Telugu states are anyways rampant and so is the overseas market with nearly $2M in Northern America one day before the release.
Salaar is a very important film for Prabhas as it is a must that he delivers a box office winner with this film, given the debacles of Adipurush, Radhe Shyam and Saaho. With so much at stake, Salaar standing with the advantage in the clash with Dunki should be a relief point for Prabhas.
On a related note, M9 has understood that Prabhas is not going on a customary foreign trip after the release. He is instead going on a brief trip to Goa.
