Over the last ten years, many films have created records at the box office. The path to success was simple. Release an attractive trailer and pull crowds to the big screen.
Choices changed as soon as people started watching regional cinema. But that could not leave a bigger impact until Baahubali arrived and preferences shifted. A few Hindi superstars eventually witnessed a downfall. The makers also started taking audiences for granted by creating hype with promotions and later delivering an underwhelming product, leading to low footfalls.
So, let’s check the list of those popular faces who could not sell enough tickets despite promising a lot.
1) Ajay Devgn
The versatile actor has delivered some commendable performances on screen. Unfortunately, he could not repeat it with Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha. His good luck, Tabu, also joined this time, but that was not sufficient. A script without any exciting or thrilling moments kept audiences away. There was no fun at all, with just conversations happening on screen. It had the lowest footfalls of around 5 lacs.
2) Akshay Kumar
It feels bad that the Khiladi of Bollywood is going through a very bad phase. Bachchan Pandey marked the beginning. But Selfiee proved that star power cannot pull crowds every time. Anyone who watched the original Driving Licence said that AK’s film was unnecessarily stretched, specifically in the climax. Moreover, it arrived at a time when the craze of Pathaan was still alive among everyone. The footfalls were almost 8 lacs.
3) Ranveer Singh
He is one of those who has experimented with different characters. However, his energy failed to attract people with Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The intention was good. But the execution did not work. There was no buzz, along with a lack of chartbuster tracks. It came out of nowhere in theatres, and the crowds were not aware of when it arrived and left the big screen. Reports claimed that the recorded footfalls were 8 lacs.
4) Ranbir Kapoor
Any critic or someone from the general public has the same opinion about him. RK’s films might flop, but you cannot ignore his flawless performance. This time, he joined Yash Raj Films after a long gap. But as usual, the lack of interest eventually brought another disaster to his filmography. The story was predictable, the role did not suit RK, and there was too much resemblance to Baahubali. It recorded footfalls of around 14 lacs.
5) Kartik Aaryan
Some films should not be remade in another language. One of them is Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. No filmmaker can repeat the same magic, specifically in Hindi. It is impossible to recreate and leave the same impression. However, Rohit Dhawan and Kartik decided to take the risk, which eventually turned out to be a bad adaptation. Even viewers rejected it without a second thought. Recorded footfalls were 20 lacs.
6) Aamir Khan
He is called Mr. Perfectionist. It is because of the choices that made him a superstar. But this time, he chose the wrong path with Laal Singh Chaddha. Hollywood is far ahead of us. It seems like the makers failed to understand it. The trailer was below average. The ticket-buying audience was bored. It is expected to happen when you forcefully stretch a film’s runtime to almost three hours. The footfalls were reported to be almost 28 lacs.
7) Hrithik Roshan
After a blockbuster like War, the Greek God was expected to deliver something better. The choice to remake Vikram Vedha was not wrong. The only mistake was that the makers forgot to recall that audiences had watched content from around the world during the lockdown, including the original Tamil action-drama. The looks from the promotional material promised a lot. However, people wanted something original. It recorded footfalls of 42 lacs.
8) Salman Khan
Bhaijaan has been trying his best to impress since Race 3. He underwent a big change this time. SK joined experienced people like Sajid Nadiadwala and A.R. Murugadoss for Sikandar. The teaser and everything else were well-made. Fans were convinced that it would mark a big comeback. Unfortunately, the final product disappointed everyone. The superstar’s energy was missing. There were hardly clap-worthy moments for the masses. The footfalls were almost 53 lacs.
9) Shah Rukh Khan
Following the success of Raees, SRK returned to the genre for which he is widely known – romance. Imtiaz Ali was in the director’s seat this time for Jab Harry Met Sejal. Trade experts predicted that nothing would go wrong. Viewers entered the theatres in excitement. But they were bored and irritated. Only two characters were appearing throughout. A one-line story with no scope was being stretched unnecessarily for more than two hours. The footfalls were 55 lacs.
Among the above-mentioned names, a few have witnessed a different kind of success after multiple failures. SRK’s Pathaan and Jawan have already created records with Rs. 1,000 crores each. Fans are now eagerly waiting for King. Then, there is Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which also grossed more than Rs. 500 crores. The same is expected from Ramayana and Love & War next year.
Others are still waiting to leave the same impact again. Salman has Battle of Galwan in the upcoming lineup. Ajay is currently struggling with the lower-than-expected response to his films. Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has been accepted by the audience, and the verdict will come out soon.
Akshay continued to deliver flops. However, the collections have improved now. Aamir has not announced anything yet. The same can be said for Hrithik, whose War 2 flopped. Kartik is busy with multiple films. As of now, we have to wait and see who will be the next to record the highest footfalls.
