Ever since Idupu Kayitham was announced, the film has been attracting attention for more than just its story. Starring Priyadarshi and Nagadurga, the film is set against a Telangana backdrop and is being produced by Bunny Vas, with Sukumar presenting it.
However, the title and the film’s regional setting have triggered an unnecessary debate on social media. What began as a small debate on social media over the title has now snowballed into an Andhra vs Telangana argument.
Producer Bunny Vas has now responded to the controversy, and his reply has won appreciation.
Speaking about the issue, Bunny Vas made it clear that a film’s title is chosen based on the story and the world in which it is set, not to favor or target any particular region.
“I am only concentrating on the film and not worrying about the noise around it. The movie will speak for itself. Whether people are from Andhra or Telangana, they will watch the film only if it’s good. My job is to make a good film,” he said.
He added that all these controversies will automatically disappear if the film connects with audiences.
“The movie isn’t restricted to any one region. I have complete confidence in the subject. The story will be relatable to everyone,” Bunny Vas explained.
Social media often creates regional debates long before audiences watch a film. But once it is released, those discussions usually become irrelevant if the content works.
Bunny Vas also pointed out that he enjoys working with new talent because it allows filmmakers to focus more on the story without worrying about huge remuneration costs.
At the end of the day, audiences in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have repeatedly embraced good films irrespective of their backdrop, dialect, or title. If Idupu Kayitham delivers engaging content, the ongoing debate is likely to disappear the moment people walk out of theatres. However, it cannot be denied that the film got heavy publicity for free just after the launch.
