The controversial film of the year, The Kerala Story, has become the talk of the country. The film recorded excellent collections on its first day of Rs. 8 crores and on its second day it is having a miraculous growth of over 60%.
In areas, like Maharashtra, where it underperformed on the first day, collections have seen a huge jump of more than 100%. The second-day collections will come in the range of 13-14 crores. The trade expects that collections will further jump on Sunday.
The film’s strong box office performance can be attributed to the controversial and sensationalized topic rather than its quality or making.
The exhibitors, who were in a depression, as no film after the blockbuster Pathaan has turned out to be even a decent hit are celebrating The Kerala Story’s success.
Due to its low budget, the film is already a hit and it is expected that in the final run, it will emerge as a big blockbuster.
After the unprecedented success of The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, Bollywood has found a new formula for getting success and that too at low production costs. More of these kinds of agenda-driven films are likely to be made as a section of people thrives on such content. We have to see how long this phase will last.
