Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-hyped film Rajinikanth’s Coolie is creating waves with its pre-sales in North America. Four days before premieres, it has already crossed 1.5 million in pre-sales, with estimates pointing to 2.5 to 3 million by premiere day – a sensational figure by any measure.
As we have reported earlier, U.S. Telugu distributors bear the brunt of production delays from Hyderabad. Content usually reaches them at the last minute, but they are the ones who pay large amounts to producers well in advance, unlike distributors in the Telugu states. This last-hour rush adds enormous stress, especially for Telugu U.S. buyers, who must ensure timely shipping to theaters.
However, Coolie seems to be an exception. Its U.S. distributor, Prathyangira Cinemas has officially confirmed that the Coolie Telugu version content has already arrived and drives will soon be dispatched to physical locations. North American premieres are set to begin on time – a rare relief in the current scenario.
In recent months, films like Kingdom and Hari Hara Veera Mallu delivered their content just hours before premieres, causing chaos. With Coolie content arriving ahead of premiere schedule, it is now entirely up to Lokesh Kanagaraj’s storytelling to decide how far the film will go in North America. For now, the stage is set.
