The film also marks Nagarjuna’s return to Tamil cinema after a long hiatus. Reports suggest he plays a powerful, possibly villainous role opposite Rajinikanth. Kannada star Upendra also plays a significant part. Aamir recently confessed that his role in Coolie would be very enjoyable.
Fans are curious to see how Lokesh has handled this ensemble, especially after the success of his previous multi-hero films like Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.

With excitement at a peak, the film’s theatrical rights for the Telugu states have become a hot topic. Leading Tollywood distributors — including Dil Raju, Asian Sunil, Sithara Naga Vamsi, and Annapurna Studios — are all competing to secure the rights.
Aware of the demand, the producers are quoting a fancy price of 45 crores (excluding GST) for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone, according to sources.
However, the producers are expecting more — somewhere around the 50-crore mark. For the film to earn a share of 50 crores, it would need to collect a gross of more than 120 crores in the Telugu states alone.
That level of business from a dubbed film is very risky, despite the brand value of Lokesh Kanagaraj and the stardom of Rajinikanth and others.
Also, there’s a catch: War 2, starring NTR and Hrithik Roshan, is set to release around the same time — August 14.
This big-budget, pan-India action film could split audience attention and dent Coolie’s prospects in the Telugu states due to NTR’s strong fan base. This scenario makes Coolie a highly risky investment for Telugu distributors.
All eyes are now on who will clinch the Telugu rights — and whether Coolie can live up to its towering expectations.
