War 2, the much-awaited action spectacle starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, was expected to be a cinematic event. However, the recently released teaser left fans disappointed, reducing the massive expectations surrounding the film.

Slated for release on August 14, 2025, the movie represents a rare crossover between Bollywood and Tollywood, combining two of India’s biggest stars.

Add the YRF Spy Universe tag to it, and this was touted to be a sure-shot box office storm. But the mixed response to the teaser has raised serious doubts about its long-term box office prospects.

Post-COVID, Yash Raj Films has had a rocky ride at the box office. Pathaan was a massive blockbuster, raking in 545 crore net in India, and Tiger 3 managed a respectable 286 crore net (though still called a flop due to its budget).

The rest of YRF’s theatrical slate — Bunty Aur Babli 2, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Samrat Prithviraj, and Shamshera — failed to even cross the 50-crore mark. In total, YRF’s Indian box office collection post-pandemic stands at around 975 crore net.

With War 2’s collections on Day 1, YRF will cross 1000 crore net in India at the box office.

With an expected Day 1 net of over 100 crores, the film could not only break records but also push YRF’s cumulative post-COVID earnings past the 1000-crore mark — a symbolic and much-needed win for the studio.

If the Hrithik–NTR combo fires at the box office, War 2 might become the first Bollywood film ever to hit 100 crore net on Day 1 in India. With Hrithik commanding the Hindi belts and Jr NTR pulling crowds in the South, the film looks perfect on paper.

However, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and also set for an August 14 release, is rapidly building momentum. The film is generating massive buzz, especially in South India, and could potentially dent War 2’s business even in the Hindi belt.

Actor Nagarjuna, fresh off the appreciation for Kuberaa, plays the antagonist Simon in Coolie. Fans are eager to see how Lokesh has showcased Nagarjuna and crafted this mass action entertainer, especially with names like Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, and others headlining the cast. The hype is real.

Interestingly, inside reports suggest War 2 is a much better film than what its teaser suggests. That means neither film is ready to back down. Both sides are gearing up for one of the most exciting Independence Day box office clashes in recent memory.

Two industries. Two massive films. One release date. Waiting for the fireworks to begin.
