Coolie or War 2: Who Will Rewrite Day 1 Records?

Coolie vs War 2 Box Office Clash

The much-awaited clash between Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan–Jr. NTR’s War 2 on August 14, 2025, is shaping up to be one of the biggest box office battles in recent times. Both films are carrying massive expectations, but their reach and audience pull are very different.

While Coolie is expected to dominate Tamil Nadu with record-breaking numbers, its performance outside the Tamil market could be affected due to the strong presence of War 2.

In the Hindi belt, War 2 is likely to dominate completely, but in the Telugu states, it will be NTR stardom versus Rajinikanth, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Nagarjuna, and the Coolie hype.

As of now, only NTR’s presence is giving War 2 an edge over Coolie in Telugu. Otherwise, in terms of overall hype, Coolie is ahead thanks to better promotional content and chart-topping songs.

However, Coolie might not achieve its full box office potential on day one, especially when compared to films like Pushpa 2, RRR, or KGF Chapter 2, which had strong pan-India appeal.

The clash will inevitably split audiences, which is a disadvantage for both films, but Coolie is expected to take the bigger hit outside Tamil Nadu.

When it comes to all-time opening records, Coolie may find it difficult to enter the top 10 Indian openers of all time. Films like Pushpa 2 (Rs. 175 crores net), RRR (Rs. 130 crores net), and Baahubali 2 (Rs. 120 crores net) have set sky-high benchmarks.

Currently, Jr. NTR’s Devara sits at the 10th spot with Rs. 82 crores net on day one, and experts believe Coolie will struggle to cross this figure due to the clash.

War 2, on the other hand, is widely expected to break into the top 10 list with ease, possibly even pushing Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (Rs. 75 crores net) out of the rankings.

While Coolie will likely emerge victorious in Tamil Nadu, the overall box office war seems slightly tilted in favor of War 2 on a pan-India level.

Rajinikanth’s last blockbuster Jailer collected Rs. 45 crores net on day one from India, with a gross of Rs. 52 crores. Coolie will easily surpass Jailer’s numbers in India, but whether it can cross Rs. 75 crores net remains to be seen.

War 2 is currently tracking a net collection of Rs. 75–80 crores in India, which would translate to around Rs. 90–95 crores gross.

Both films have the potential to rake in huge numbers, but with audiences divided, this clash is set to be one of the most talked-about box office showdowns of 2025.
