A massive box office clash is just ten days away, as War 2 starring Jr NTR and Coolie featuring Superstar Rajinikanth are both set to release on August 14. Though both films boast enormous star power, early hype seems to slightly favor Coolie, thanks to its ensemble cast and director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s fan base.
Coolie gains added advantage from the presence of stars like Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Aamir Khan. The film’s soundtrack has also struck a chord with fans, building anticipation even before its trailer release. Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for directing blockbusters like Vikram and Leo, has brought similar expectations to this project.
War 2’s trailer dropped earlier but generated only a lukewarm response. While it was decently received, it lacked standout moments that could ignite a fan frenzy. As a result, excitement had shifted toward Coolie’s trailer, which finally launched to mixed reactions. Some viewers are pleased with its style and cast, but many are left disappointed.
A major criticism is that the trailer reveals little about the plot. Audiences expected more powerful dialogues and gripping sequences. While Lokesh’s signature style and the impressive cast were evident, the trailer felt more like a character montage than a narrative preview. This left fans unsure about the film’s direction.
Speculation around a time-travel theme has surfaced due to certain visual cues in the trailer. However, fans are divided on whether such a concept suits a mass star like Rajinikanth. Although the trailer builds some intrigue, it may fall short of the sky-high expectations surrounding the film’s release.
On social media, the Hindi-speaking audience appears to lean toward War 2. Several viewers have voiced that Coolie’s trailer lacks the punch needed to appeal to North Indian markets. Some argue that it feels flat and underwhelming, especially when compared to the energy of War 2’s promo.
Critics point out that while the visuals and performances are commendable, the Coolie trailer misses out on emotional hooks, striking action scenes, and strong dialogues—key elements that typically excite mainstream viewers. Its tone remains ambiguous, making it difficult for fans to gauge the film’s core appeal.
Comments online highlight this sentiment clearly. Posts like “#War2Trailer >>> #CoolieTrailer. No comparison. War 2 wins hands down,” and “Even Tamil fans seem underwhelmed,” reflect the growing concern. Fans also mention missing the intensity Lokesh brought to Vikram, questioning whether Coolie can live up to his earlier works.
Despite these concerns, a strong opening in Tamil Nadu is expected for Coolie. However, its performance in the Hindi belt remains uncertain. The film will need both a wide release strategy and compelling content to gain traction across diverse Indian markets.
