Hyderabad Police are working on a deal to acquire facial recognition software which will help them identify the terror suspects, property offenders and other criminals at the click of a mouse once they are caught on CCTV camera. The software when keyed in an input will match the face of the suspect or accused with a data bank of photographs of known offenders.
Currently the Police in such cases are matching the suspect’s photo with their old records which is often proving to be very troublesome. By the time they finish the exercise, the culprit is already escaped. The software can also help in identifying any person whose photos have been taken around 50-years ago (i.e. when the person was aged 18-20 years then). And it will also identify the person in spite of beard or anything on his face.

The Police department is currently in talks with the vendors regarding this software. They will be trying the selected software for a month as pilot project and then suggest the improvements if needed.
