Usually, the Akkineni family is never overtly or arguably even sufficiently ambitious about their projects. They mostly do films that don’t scare away competition. As a result, almost all of Nag, Chay and Akhil’s films release in competitors with others.
But for the first time, Akhil and Chay are enjoying solo releases. Akhil blew the opportunity already with Agent which is an epic box office disaster.
Now, the onus is on Chay to make the most of the solo release as Custody is headed for its theatrical release tomorrow, 12th of May. The film is getting a solo release at the Tollywood box office.
Custody is promoted as a content driven film and that is the need of the hour now as the audience are lapping up content. This box needs to be ticked if the film is to gain the attention of content lovers.
On the flip side, Custody isn’t a commercial film with good buzz in order to get good openings regardless of the talk on opening day. So, it is essential for the film to hold its own and open to largely positive reviews if it is to go big at the box office.
It is time for Akkineni heroes to demand respect for their films and the best way to do so is make the most of solo release. Akhil failed at it with Agent, and now, Chay is at it with Custody and it’s an important film not just for film but also the Akkineni family.
