Tamil film DC featuring Lokesh Kanagaraj in the lead role is doing particularly in the Telugu states as well. The film had houseful shows in parts of Hyderabad last night, which is a pretty impressive feat for a film of this kind which doesn’t have a big name like Vijay or Surya associated with it.
One of the main reasons why the film was able to pull the audience in significant numbers was the strong technical reviews that it could generate thanks to music director Anirudh Ravichander.
Going by the theatrical experience that the film had to deliver, it was Anirudh who did the entire heavy lifting himself.
The film by itself is moderate at best, but it was almost entirely elevated by the sensational background score that was composed by this musical genius. Particularly the interval episode, which has the Raga of Revenge soundtrack is out of this world.
This is less about the actors and the director of the film and more about the musical masterclass that was put up by the most gifted music composer of this generation.
It is an absolute shame that Telugu Cinema can’t put up a music director, who has the same Pedigree as Anirudh Ravichander.
Back in the day, we had Mani Sharma and Devi Sri Prasad who were of elite quality and this was reasonably filled up by Thaman later. But in the current generation, a musical talent as good as Anirudh Ravichander has simply not been promised from any Telugu technician till date.
Harshavardhan Rameswar can do it to a reasonable capacity, but his positive work is almost entirely confined to Sandeep Reddy, and not beyond that. Only time will tell if Telugu cinema can produce a musical force as strong as Anirudh, who can simply make or break a film on his own.
