On January 8, 2024, NTR Jr. and Kortala Siva unveiled the teaser of their grand project, Devara, garnering a positive response from both the trade and the audience.
The visually stunning teaser created buzz in Hindi markets, but recent reports reveal a delay in the film’s release. Initially set for April 5, 2024, the decision to push back the release stems from the extensive VFX work, prioritizing quality over a rushed product.
Sources close to the project highlight the meticulous approach, citing the complexity of the high VFX demands and NTR Jr.’s desire for a significant cinematic experience post-RRR success. Despite ongoing VFX efforts, approximately 20 days of shooting remain, slightly delayed due to Saif Ali Khan’s injury, who plays a pivotal role. Devara’s release is now expected in the second half of 2024.
Bollywood analysts commend the decision of Devara makers, recognizing the film’s substantial budget and the need for a strong presence in the Hindi market. Avoiding a clash with a big-budget action film like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Ajay Devgn’s sports drama Maidaan ensures a better screen share in the North.
On the contrary, both Bollywood releases must sigh a breath of relief. The postponement of Devara benefits those two movies, giving them a lease of new life. Devara, with its international-standard visuals, had the potential to challenge both films and even emerge a winner. Last month we saw Salaar denting Dunki’s collections big time in the North. Both films escaped narrowly from Devara.
A big shuffle in the release dates of other pan-India biggies from the Telugu industry is also on the way. Stay tuned for all updates.
