The shooting of Dhanush’s anticipated Om directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy is nearing its final stages and the team has officially announced that the film will release on October 16th as a Dussehra special.
Since the last two Kollywood films of Dhanush, Kubera and Idli Kadai, didn’t perform well at the box office and ended up as failures, the success of Om is very crucial for the actor.
When everything was going smoothly for Om and the team started the post-production work for the film in full swing, all of a sudden the makers of Rajinikanth’s most anticipated sequel Jailer 2 announced that it will hit the screens on October 15th and declared a clash with Om for the Dussehra weekend.
Especially since Dhanush has huge respect for Rajinikanth and Jailer 2 is a massive film with high expectations, the makers of Dhanush’s Om tried to postpone the release to Diwali.
However, according to fresh reports, the Netflix OTT platform, which has acquired the digital rights to Om, doesn’t want the film to get postponed and has ordered the makers to stick to the planned release date, as they reportedly don’t want their schedule to collapse because of the postponement. Consequently, with no option left, Dhanush’s Om will most likely release on October 16th without any delay.
In response to this speculation, many Dhanush fans got upset and started thrashing the makers of Jailer 2 for interfering with the smooth release of Om. They feel that if Om clashes with Jailer 2, it would end up as a suicidal move.
They note that since Jailer 2 is the most anticipated project in Kollywood, most of the screens will be allocated to it and Om might end up unnoticed with a smaller screen count. Also, because the success of Om is very crucial for the actor to reclaim his throne, Dhanush fans now feel that the makers of Om should lock in a better release date, ensuring a solo release.
Ultimately, all of these are just social media speculations and there are still no official updates on this. Hence, it remains to be seen whether Dhanush’s Om will stick to the original release date and face a clash with Jailer 2 or be postponed to a new release date in the future.
