Following the massive blockbuster success of Karuppu, Suriya has now returned with the film Vishwanath and Sons directed by Venky Atluri, which was released in theatres on August 14th and has received mixed responses from audiences and critics.
Despite the mixed reviews, Vishwanath and Sons connected well with general audiences. Consequently, the film is now doing a rampage at the box office and according to the official announcement from the production house, it has collected 100 crores at the box office in just 2 days.
Hence, if the current trend continues, Vishwanath and Sons will easily become Suriya’s 2nd highest-grossing film following Karuppu. Meanwhile, following the two consecutive commercial successes, all eyes are now on Suriya’s next film Suriya 47 directed by Jithu Madhavan, which is currently in the final stages of production.
While earlier sources suggested that Suriya 47 might hit the screens by the end of this year or early next year, recent reports indicate that due to films such as Arasan and Marshal, which were earlier aimed for a Diwali release getting postponed, the Suriya 47 team is planning to release the film for Diwali to cash in on the festival weekend.
On the other hand, Dhanush‘s OM, which was earlier scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16th, is now planning to postpone its release to Diwali to avoid clashing with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, which is releasing on October 15th. Consequently, the current situation looks like Dhanush’s OM and Suriya’s Suriya 47 might face a neck-and-neck clash on Diwali.
In response to this speculation regarding the clash between OM and Suriya 47, many trade experts are suggesting that since the success of OM is very crucial for Dhanush because his last two films ended up as terrible failures, OM might avoid clashing with Suriya 47 and be postponed to a new release date.
However, there are still no official updates on the release date of Suriya 47. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether OM and Suriya 47 will clash on Diwali and, if they do, which film will emerge as the clash winner.
