After delivering record success in theatres, Dhurandhar created strong demand in the OTT market. The film was earlier sold to Netflix for a premium price. Now, expectations around the sequel have gone much higher.
Industry sources reveal that Dhurandhar 2 has secured an OTT deal worth Rs 150 crore. The rights have reportedly gone to Jio Hotstar after intense competition. This amount is significantly higher than the first part’s deal.
The sequel, titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, is said to have fetched Rs 85 crore more than the original film. Despite strong interest, Netflix could not retain the franchise. The makers were confident about the film’s long-term value.
Sources say Netflix attempted to acquire both instalments for Rs 150 crore together. However, the producers believed the sequel alone deserved that valuation. Growing audience demand and strong re-watch value played a key role.
Trade analysts feel securing this project is a major win for Jio Hotstar. With expectations soaring, many believe Dhurandhar 2 could be bigger than the first part. The missed opportunity may leave Netflix with some regret.
