Mohanlal‘s anticipated Drishyam 3 directed by Jeethu Joseph was released in theatres on 21st May and has received mixed responses from both audiences and critics alike.
Despite the reviews, due to the franchise hype, many people turned up in huge numbers at the theatres to watch Drishyam 3 and because of it, by grossing almost 240 crores worldwide, Drishyam 3 ended up as a commercial success.
Even before the release of Drishyam 3, many Drishyam fans felt that the third installment for the franchise was unnecessary, as they claimed that stretching a single murder case into three parts might reduce the hype for the franchise and give the audience a feeling that it was being unnecessarily stretched.
When everyone believed that Drishyam 3 would be the endgame for the franchise and even Jeethu Joseph had confirmed it in an interview, he surprised the audience by leaving a lead at the end for Part 4. But, due to the mixed reviews, fans hoped that Jeethu Joseph would drop the idea of doing Drishyam 4.
However, a few days ago, when Mohanlal announced the directors for his upcoming seven films, after seeing the name Jeethu Joseph on the list, many people guessed that it would be Drishyam 4 and had already started trolling the actor and the director, claiming it seems like the duo is not leaving the Drishyam franchise peacefully and keeps doing unnecessary extensions with it.
In this scenario, producer Antony Perumbavoor, in a recent award function, has officially confirmed that Drishyam 4 is happening and soon the production work for the film will begin.
In response to this update, many netizens feel that the Drishyam franchise was already saturated with Drishyam 3 and if the makers still do a fourth installment without listening to the fans’ reactions just for the sake of money, then it will end up as a huge loss venture.
Meanwhile, some have started trolling by suggesting it seems like Jeethu Joseph is not letting go of the Drishyam franchise and is planning to do multiple installments based on it for the rest of his lifetime.
Ultimately, with the severe backlash for the Part 4 update, it remains to be seen whether Drishyam 4 will materialize and if it does, how the project will take shape in the future.
