GV Prakash Kumar has delivered several memorable albums in South Indian cinema, but Bollywood is still a market where he has a lot to prove. His upcoming Hindi film Nayyi Navelli, starring Yami Gautam and backed by Aanand L Rai, gives him an opportunity to make a stronger impression by composing the entire album, along with the background score.
There is a difference between delivering a hit song for a Hindi film and taking charge of its complete music. GV Prakash will have to get the songs right while ensuring that the background score supports the film’s emotions. It is a bigger responsibility, but also an opportunity to show what he can offer beyond his established South Indian audience.
GV Prakash is no newcomer who needs to prove his basic talent. He has already built a career as a composer, singer and actor. The question now is whether he can make Bollywood filmmakers look at him as a regular choice for their projects rather than bringing him on board for a single film.
Nayyi Navelli could open that door. A strong response to the music would give GV Prakash the kind of recognition that could lead to more Hindi assignments. For now, this is an opportunity worth watching, and the album will have to do the talking.
