HanuMan Producer Niranjan Reddy and Director Prasanth Varma are in a serious conflict. Both have filed complaints against each other with the Telugu Film Chamber. Legal action also seems to be on the cards as tensions grow.
M9 News accessed both complaint letters. Niranjan Reddy was the first to approach the Chamber. He said Prasanth Varma agreed to direct four films under Prime Show Entertainment: Adhira, Mahankali, Jai HanuMan, and Brahma Rakshasa.
According to Reddy, he paid Prasanth Varma a total of 10.34 crore as advance for these projects. He also said Varma pushed him to take over another film, Octopus, for which he paid another 10.23 crore. He still hasn’t received an NOC from its original producer.
Reddy’s complaint says Prasanth Varma later refused to direct Adhira and Mahankali, instead bringing in Vijay Binni and Pooja Kolluru as directors. Reddy claims that even after he paid advances to these new directors, Varma announced the films with RKD Studios.
He also accused Varma of making Jai HanuMan and Brahma Rakshasa for other banners, Mythri and Hombale. Reddy now wants his 20.57 crore back with 36% interest. He also demands 200 crore as compensation for lost business opportunities from the four films.
In response, Prasanth Varma sent an explanation to the Telugu Film Director’s Association. He said he never promised to direct Adhira and Mahankali and that there were no agreements for those films.
Prasanth Varma said he holds the IP rights of HanuMan, so Niranjan Reddy cannot claim Jai HanuMan under his banner. He also denied any deal for Brahma Rakshasa. He admitted receiving 15.82 crore for his work on HanuMan and one crore for the Adhira teaser.
Prasanth Varma confirmed receiving 8.18 crore for Octopus but claimed he passed that amount to the original producer. He added that any dispute regarding that payment is between Reddy and the original producer, not him.
He said he owned all rights to HanuMan except Telugu theatrical, satellite, music, and digital rights. He also said Reddy forced him to give up other language theatrical rights, promising a 50% share in return. HanuMan made 295 crore nett, and Varma says he’s still waiting for his share.
Prasanth Varma insisted that all payments he received were linked to HanuMan alone. He accused Reddy of twisting facts to avoid clearing dues. He also alleged that HanuMan funds were diverted to other films like Darling, Sambarala Yeti Gattu, and Billa Ranga Baasha.
For now, the industry waits to see how the Film Chamber resolves this escalating fight.
