Why are heroines still hesitant to play mothers or married women on screen? The concern is that once they take up such roles, filmmakers may stop offering them younger or glamorous characters. During an interview with M9, Srinidhi Shetty opened up about this issue, revealing that she had similar concerns and even discussed the subject with Trivikram Srinivas during the story sittings of Aadarsha Kutumbam.
However, Srinidhi believes audiences are ready to accept actresses in different kinds of roles as long as they perform them well. She raised an interesting question about biopics. If an actress gets an opportunity to portray a real person’s life at different stages, from the age of 20 to 40 and then 60, should she turn it down because of concerns about her image?
Many heroines worry that playing a mother on screen could affect the roles they get later. That is why they think twice before accepting such characters, even when the role has something good to offer.
But Srinidhi Shetty feels there is no need to look at it that way. As she pointed out, if an actress can convincingly play a woman at 20, 40 and 60 in a biopic, why should she worry about playing a mother? A good role should not become a risk just because of the character’s age or family status.
