Dil Raju is one filmmaker with loads of experience in film production and distribution. He is known to be a tough negotiator in business. Dil Raju sat across the table with OTT major for the last one month or so to finalize the Direct Online Release Deal for his new film, V.
But then, it is confirmed that the deal is not sealed and the movie will opt for the traditional theaters first release now. This also indicates that there is a clear disparity between the expectations of the filmmakers and the viability of the OTT majors. This will be the case for all filmmakers who are thinking of a direct OTT release.
If a tough negotiator like Dil Raju could not do it, most of the others could not do that or some may have to take a loss home in the process. As of now, Anushka’s Nishabdham is the only notable film in talks for a direct online release. Rest all are small films with shoestring budgets.
So far, only one Telugu film, Amrutharamam has released online. There are reports Sundeep Kishan’s DK Bose which is struck in cans for many years will also release online directly.
