The Income Tax Department has reportedly launched search operations at around 12 locations in Mumbai linked to actress Rakul Preet Singh, filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani and Panorama Studios. The searches are reportedly part of an ongoing financial investigation into suspected irregularities and alleged overseas movement of funds connected with film production, shooting and international distribution.
The latest development has immediately drawn attention to Vashu Bhagnani’s Pooja Entertainment and its long history of flops and disasters.
Pooja Entertainment, run by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani, has been struggling for years. The banner has delivered more than 25 consecutive flops or disasters over a period of more than two decades. Its last big commercial success was Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai in 2001.
Since then, the production house has seen several high-profile disasters. Himmatwala and Humshakals were big box-office failures. The recent run has been equally brutal, with Bell Bottom, Mission Raniganj and Ganapath flopping miserably.
Then came Bade Miyan Chote Miyan in 2024.
The Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer was mounted on a massive scale and came with huge expectations. But the film turned into another disaster, failing to recover its investment and reportedly causing losses of more than Rs. 200 crores.
After disaster followed disaster, social media users began questioning how the production house continued to finance expensive projects. Some even made allegations about money laundering and other financial irregularities. Those were social media allegations and were not established facts.
The latest Income Tax searches have now brought the financial side of the production business back into the spotlight.
A production house that has survived more than two decades of flops and disasters is now facing fresh financial scrutiny. What the Income Tax Department finds could provide more clarity on the money trail behind some of these expensive film ventures.
