The Irumudi team had plenty to celebrate as the film’s extraordinary theatrical run continues, with the movie crossing the 200 crore worldwide gross mark. From unexpected footfalls to its strong appeal across age groups, the film has emerged as a major success story for everyone involved.
Speaking at the film’s Generational Blockbuster celebration, Mythri Movie Makers’ Ravi revealed that Irumudi surpassed expectations across all regions. The producer said the film’s reach can be better understood through its impressive footfall numbers. “In terms of footfalls, Irumudi created several records. Nearly one crore people have watched the film, while Nizam alone has crossed 40 lakh,” he said.
For Mythri Movie Makers’ Naveen, the film has now earned a special place in the production house’s history. He described Irumudi as a rare achievement that delivered both commercial success and widespread appreciation. “It is a very comfortable film made within the time frame and budget. Irumudi is a miracle and a next-level movie in our journey, in terms of appreciation and revenues. Things like this happen very rarely, perhaps once in a decade. We believe the casting of Ravi Teja was one of the decisions that ultimately validated itself through the film’s response,” Naveen said.
Director Shiva Nirvana looked beyond the numbers while explaining why Irumudi connected so strongly with audiences. According to him, the film’s unique combination of different narrative layers played a crucial role in its success. “The three layers blending together definitely worked. Telugu audiences completely owned the film in theatres. I thought the combination of the devotional layer and the crime layer, along with a meaningful message underneath, would give audiences a different experience,” Shiva Nirvana said.
However, the biggest takeaway from Irumudi for the director has been the creative freedom it has given him. He believes the film has helped him move beyond the perception that he is primarily a filmmaker of light-hearted and emotional stories. “I felt it would work commercially and also open a new door for me. The film is never preachy anywhere. When I made films like Ninnu Kori and Majili, there was an opinion that Shiva Nirvana makes good light-hearted movies. Personally, what Irumudi gave me is the confidence that I can now explore more,” he added.
The Generational Blockbuster celebration thus marked two significant victories for the team. For Mythri Movie Makers, Irumudi has become an extraordinary commercial milestone, while for Shiva Nirvana, the film stands as proof that he can successfully venture into unfamiliar territory while continuing to connect with audiences.
