The shooting of Jailer 2, Rajinikanth’s much-awaited sequel directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is progressing at a brisk pace. Over the past few weeks, social media has been buzzing with rumours about new additions to its star-studded cast.
Many still believe the success of Jailer was not just about its story or screenplay, but its powerful casting. The final shot featuring Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, and Shiva Rajkumar with a cigar remains one of the most celebrated frames in recent cinema.
Since the announcement of Jailer 2, the makers have stayed tight-lipped about casting details. However, reports suggest that along with Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, senior Telugu actor Balayya will also join the sequel.
Other names doing the rounds include Fahadh Faasil, SJ Suryah, Sooraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan, who are said to be in talks for key roles. Adding to the excitement, there is a strong buzz that comedian Santhanam will reunite with Rajinikanth after Lingaa (2014).
While some fans believe these reports, others think the rumours are part of a planned PR strategy to build hype around the film. Supporters argue that even though Jailer featured big stars from multiple industries, Nelson managed to give everyone their moment on screen.
However, with Jailer 2 expected to feature an even bigger cast, Nelson will have to balance screen time carefully. Overcrowding the film with stars could disappoint fans if their favourite actors are underused.
For now, the makers have not made any official announcement about the cast. Whether Jailer 2 will bring together another massive ensemble or take a more focused approach remains to be seen.
