Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has been making noise in trade circles for quite some time. Now, the film is back in the news, and this time it is all about its OTT business.
According to the latest reports, Jailer 2 has closed a massive RS 160 crore OTT deal with Amazon Prime Video, and it is said to be the biggest-ever OTT deal for a Tamil film.
If the reports are true, Jailer 2 has reportedly moved ahead of other big-ticket Tamil films in the OTT race. Leo was reported to have fetched around Rs 120 crore for its digital rights, while Coolie was also said to have closed a deal in the ₹120 crore range.
Now, Jailer 2 reportedly going for RS 160 crore shows the kind of business value the Rajinikanth-Nelson combination continues to command. For Amazon Prime Video, retaining the Jailer franchise at a significantly higher price also indicates the confidence in Rajinikanth’s market and the sequel’s potential.
For Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar, this is certainly a strong start to the sequel’s business. The theatrical numbers will obviously be the bigger test, but the OTT deal has already given the film a huge cushion.
As Of Now, the RS 160 crore figure is still based on trade reports. There has been no official confirmation from the makers or Amazon Prime Video regarding the exact value of the deal.
If the reported figure turns out to be true, Jailer 2 has already scored big even before entering the theatres.
