Filmmaking in South Indian cinema is a very costly affair as a superstar oriented film is generally costing hundreds of crores for production.
Now we have the case of a Tamil film Jana Nayagan, which has been in production for a long time now and is facing a whole lot of trouble when it comes to releasing in theatres.
The film was supposed to release in theatres in January but it still hasn’t seen daylight to this day. This is a pathetic situation for the producer who is unable to orchestrate theatrical release.
On one hand, that theatrical release of the film is getting postponed and on the other OTT platform will be taking them to the cleaners for earliest possible release. They could have already negotiated the pricing for the film, given the extreme delay in the release.
The sad thing for the producer here is that he is not even able to get the Hero Thalapathy Vijay involved as he is busy with his election campaign.
And adding to this misery, if Vijay does not perform well in Tamil Nadu politics in the upcoming assembly election, then the hype surrounding this film could go down to the bottom.
And on top of all this film had certain portion leaked online, and it is trending all over social media. This will further deplete the theatrical prospect, and also the OTT release of the film.
Considering the fact that Vijay is one of the highest paid actors and is rumoured to charge over Rs 150 crore per film, this new scenario with piling costs due to delay must be an absolute lose-lose for the producer at multiple levels.
