Kalki 2 Pressure: Can SaNa Silence Telugu Fans?

Santhosh Narayanan on Kalki 2 music

Prabhas’ mythological sci fi spectacle Kalki 2898 AD collected 1000 crores gross worldwide. Naturally, all eyes are now on the sequel, which is expected to go on floors from February.

Adding fresh fuel to the excitement, music director Santhosh Narayanan recently spoke about Kalki Part 2 and set expectations soaring. In an interview, he said that he hopes the sequel will be his best work so far. Calling the first part a massive learning experience, Santhosh revealed that work on the sequel has already begun and that the team is putting in extra effort this time. He also confirmed that once the dates of the lead actors align, shooting will officially kick off.

There is no doubt that Kalki Part 2 carries enormous weight. However, alongside the hype, there is also a lingering concern regarding Santhosh Narayanan’s music.

While he is widely celebrated for his work in Tamil cinema, many Telugu viewers felt that his contribution to Kalki 2898 AD was underwhelming. The songs failed to leave a mark, and the background score, barring a few second half action blocks, lacked the kind of punch a film of this scale deserved. Telugu audiences openly expressed disappointment, especially when comparing his Telugu work to the powerful scores he delivers in Tamil films.

This has sparked debate on social media, with some Telugu fans even accusing Santhosh of not giving his best when working outside Tamil cinema. Whether fair or not, the criticism is loud enough to matter. With Kalki Part 2, Santhosh Narayanan now has a chance to silence all doubts. If he delivers memorable songs and a truly goosebumps worthy BGM this time, it could elevate the sequel to another level altogether. All eyes are on whether he can rise to that challenge.
