Kalki 2898 AD is doing roaring business at the box office, especially the Hindi version. But the box office numbers are creating a huge controversy among the Bollywood media.
A section of Bollywood trade and influencers are accusing the makers of Kalki 2898 AD doing a manipulation of 70-80 crores in the gross numbers. They are accusing their fellow trade analysts of not calling out the production houses for the heavy inflation of box office numbers.
On the other hand, those other trade analysts are reporting box office numbers of Kalki 2898 AD as per their research and sources (box office India). They don’t want to indulge in any kind of mud-slinging by calling out the makers.
According to them, over-reporting box office figures to generate buzz is a common practice across both Bollywood and South Indian cinema.
It only becomes problematic when it involves self-bookings or corporate bookings, a tactic used by a few films released last year in June, November, and December, and this year in April.
They claim Kalki 2898 AD makers have inflated collections but they have not done any corporate bookings.
