Prabhas Kalki 2898 AD

Prabhas is one of the biggest pan-India stars, despite some of his movies not doing well. His next film, Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, is in its final stages of filming.

Anil Thadani’s AA Films will release the Hindi version, having bought the rights for a whopping Rs 100 crores. This deal marks one of the highest for a South Indian actor-led film.

Anil Thadani will ensure that Kalki 2898 AD will get a wide and record release.

Since the distribution price is 100 crores, Kalki has to collect around 200-225 crores net to emerge as a clean hit. Anything above 180 crores would be deemed a success. If it can hit the 250 crore mark it will be declared as a super hit.

Prabhas’ last film Salaar did a business of 150 crores which was similar to his 2019 film Saaho. Adipurush collected around 115 crores.

Kalki definitely has to do better than all these films to be labeled as a hit film.

Kalki is a stand-alone film and not a sequel like Baahubali 2 or Pushpa 2 and is directed by Nag Ashwin who isn’t a popular director. Realistically speaking the hype would be good but not tremendous in the Hindi belts.

If the film is released solo and gets a positive word of mouth, 200 crores is still achievable. But if it fails to impress the Hindi audience even touching 100 crores would be a daunting task.

The presence of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani should ensure a healthy opening in the range of 18-20 crores net in the North.
