Kalki 2898 AD in Hindi has exceeded all expectations. Before its release, it seemed the film had little buzz in the Hindi markets, and predictions suggested a lackluster opening of below 15 crores. However, the film surprised everyone by collecting Rs. 21 crores on Thursday.
Since then, its momentum has only increased. Friday saw a collection of 22 crores, and despite the big World Cup cricket match on Saturday, Kalki managed to collect 26 crores.
On Sunday, Kalki 2898 AD is in full swing. The film is experiencing capacity issues at major centers, and early estimates suggest it could reach 33-35 crores by the end of the day. The four-day weekend total is projected to be around 102-104 crores net which is a superb total.
Family audiences, including kids, have embraced the film despite its slow and boring first half. Additionally, the mythological angle has connected well with the North audience.
However, the real test begins tomorrow. The film needs to collect a minimum of 200 crores net in its lifetime to reach breakeven. To be declared a hit the film should touch the 225 crore mark with a distributor share of 125 crore as Anil Thadani has bought the film for 100 crores.
If Monday’s drop is around 50%, resulting in collections of about 11-12 crores, then the film is on track to earn 200 crores net in Hindi within three weeks. But if Monday’s collections fall drastically, like Adipurush, the scenario might change.
However, the likely outcome is that Kalki 2898 AD will sail through and achieve the breakeven mark in Hindi as per the current momentum.
