It has been a nightmarish experience for ‘Lingaa’ and ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ producers of Rajnikanth regarding the finances. And the experience definitely would be a lesson for many who are dealing with big financiers in the film industry. As universal star Kamal Haasan has three films lined up for release, crores of rupees are at stake and without proper planning, there can be another nightmarish saga.
However Kamal chose to play safe by taking a clue from the Hollywood type business model. According to this model, Kamal has invested initially in his projects and then sold it out to two other distributors after the first copy is ready. And that means Kamal will also get his remuneration and not tied with film’s finances going by the agreement.
At present ‘Uttama Villain’ is taken up by Eros International and Tirupathi Brothers Private Ltd. who would look up into the promotions (both in India and overseas) and Kamal will only promote the movie according to the conditions laid down in their agreement clauses. This way, Kamal has taken up the three-tier model. He produced the film upto the first copy and the distributors will promote and distribute the film across the nation and overseas.
