The Hindi market has always welcomed South Indian films with the right content. Movies like Pushpa 2, KGF 2, and Baahubali 2 proved how well such films can connect with audiences across India.
Now, Kantara Chapter 1 has arrived in the Hindi belt, riding on the surprise success of its first part. The original film became a word-of-mouth sensation, especially in urban markets.
However, Kantara Chapter 1 has seen only moderate performance so far in Hindi. The film hasn’t shown the kind of sharp rise that signals a nationwide breakout.
Over its first weekend, Kantara Chapter 1 reportedly earned around ₹70 crore nett. While that’s a fair number for a South Indian film dubbed in Hindi, expectations were higher for a sequel.
Typically, when a South film clicks in the Hindi market, it records a massive Sunday. In this case, the Sunday collection of ₹21 crore nett was only slightly higher than the ₹17.75 crore earned on opening Thursday.
If the film had enjoyed a stronger surge, it might have crossed ₹100 crore by now and set up a huge second weekend. But with steady yet unspectacular numbers, its long-term box office performance remains to be seen.
Despite this, Kantara Chapter 1 is heading toward success, though not at the explosive level of Pushpa 2 or KGF 2. In South India, it continues to perform strongly in Kannada markets and maintains decent figures in Telugu regions.
