Suriya‘s long-pending project Karuppu directed by RJ Balaji, finally grabbed its release date and is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 15th. With only a few weeks left before the release, director RJ Balaji has started the promotions for Karuppu by giving interviews and participating in events.
In one such interview, RJ Balaji opened up about how Suriya replaced Vijay in Karuppu and the story is now going viral on social media. He stated that he started writing Karuppu in August 2023 and since his idea was big, he needed star power to pull off the script. So, he immediately went and narrated it to Vijay.
Reportedly, after the narration, Vijay gave the green light and asked him to start the project immediately. However, since RJ Balaji required some time to develop the full story, it didn’t materialize at that time.
Furthermore, he mentioned that even though the project didn’t move forward then, he was very happy with the discussions he had with Vijay regarding the project. He then narrated the same story to Suriya and that’s how Karuppu was born.
In response to this revelation by RJ Balaji, some people on social media have started responding that Karuppu would have become a massive project if Vijay had acted in it.
They also feel that instead of doing The Greatest of All Time with Venkat Prabhu and Jana Nayagan with H Vinoth, Vijay should have preferred RJ Balaji for Karuppu, as they believe Karuppu is a fun and mass commercial film that would have been perfect for him.
However, some Suriya fans on social media are claiming that since Vijay himself initially wanted to act in Karuppu, they hope the film is solid, which is why Vijay agreed to do it. They feel that Suriya has grabbed a solid opportunity to showcase his potential and reclaim his market.
Ultimately, RJ Balaji’s revelation that Vijay was the first choice for Karuppu has increased the expectations for the film among audiences. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Karuppu satisfies the expectations of the audience and emerges as a huge blockbuster success upon its release on May 15th.
