Last weekend was a particularly busy one for the Telugu box office as we had multiple films arriving in theatres. The most significant of the lot are Jana Nayagan and Chennai Love Story.
When it comes to the overall weekend box office run of either of these film, it is Kiran’s film that has done reasonably well in terms of hold and return on investment.
Vijay’s Jana Nayagan was always in the doubt largely due to the lack of Director value. Had it been Nelson Dilipkumar or Lokesh Kanagaraj, directing this film, the outcome could have been completely different as the anticipation would have been through the roof.
But nevertheless, this film could post whatever revenue is it got on the opening weekend, thanks to the star value of Thalapathy Vijay. He is the only saving grace for this film, which was outrightly rejected by the reviewers from day 1.
On the other hand, we have Kiran Abbavaram’s Chennai Love Story and this film held reasonably well over the weekend. It is one of the better performing films for Kiran is likely to be the biggest hit in his career by going past the 50 crore mark of Ka.
This film primarily appeals to the younger generation of the audience, and it is able to start Monday on a decent note with 3000 tickets sold per hour.
On one hand, the producer of Jana Nayagan was able to reduce the liability of the delay in the release of this film, and the film is generating whatever revenue that I can. On the other, we have Kiran who has scored another decent hit and has consolidated his market well.
