Bollywood is again in the doldrums in 2024 after a fantastic 2023. The year’s first biggest release, Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone didn’t live up to the expectations and emerged as a below-average fare at the box office.
Shahid Kapoor – Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljhaa Jiya is doing okay business and better than expectations but nothing to be proud of. This week’s release was popular singer Guru Randhawa’s debut film Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay.
Guru Randhawa’s singles on YouTube garner hundreds of millions of views in just a few days. The trade expected Guru will receive the same kind of reception in theaters as well. But the box office is a different beast altogether.
The audience has outrightly dismissed the film, with its day-one box office collection barely scraping the bottom at 25 lakhs, marking it as one of the worst day-one performances in recent times.
Interestingly, the film is directed by Ashok G who delivered the blockbuster Bhaagamathie in 2018. He moved to Bollywood during COVID times and seems to have lost his mojo completely. His latest film has turned out to be a washout.
