If making big hero films isn’t challenging enough for a yet-to-be-proven director, making a biopic of a legend with a big hero would be excruciatingly challenging. Budding Tamil director Arun Matheswaran is experiencing the same now.
The makers of musical maestro Ilaiyaraja’s biopic announced and launched the project today and it has Dhanush in the central role. Arun Matheswaran has been announced as the director of the film.
However, Arun’s announcement has drawn a mixed response from fans in general as they are skeptical about the choice of director for this legendary biopic.
Arun made Captain Miller, Rocky, and Saani Kaayidham till now. Notably, none of them have worked unanimously well at the box office or on OTT. With this in mind, fans are anxious if the director can handle a biopic of a legend like Ilaiyaraja that has a wide appeal and touches sensible topics.
But what needs to be noted here is that the man who should decide on this is Dhanush who is playing the main role. Dhanush would have seen Arun’s work while working on Captain Miller and only based on this assessment would he have given Ilaiyaraja biopic to the latter. Moreover, Arun’s films have good technical values which could be an indication of his technical grip so he is indeed ticking a few boxes.
But the onus is now on Arun to prove his doubters wrong and deliver a winning film with this biopic which has Ilaiyaraja himself composing the music.
